Zheng Mengxia (鄭孟霞)

Zheng Mengxia (鄭孟霞Cheng Mang-ha) was born in a wealthy family in Hong Kong in 1912. Her father ran the business of "Singer" sewing machine and also served as the general manager of Singer sewing machine in the five southeastern provinces of China. Her father had ten wives and concubines, and she was the daughter of a concubine. Her Japanese mother died of lung disease when she was eleven years old. She was then sent to Shanghai Qiming Girls Middle School to board. Because she did not understand Shanghainese, she encountered many difficulties in studying in Shanghai, and her interest gradually turned to singing and dancing, becoming a celebrity in Shanghai's celebrity circles. Zheng Mengxia and Chen Gaocong, a reporter from the English "Sports Weekly", participated in the All-Shanghai Dance Competition in June 1934, won the championship, and then went to perform around the world. On December 1, 1934, the 99th issue of "Liangyou Pictorial" "Standard Women" design drawing, Zheng Mengxia was described as "superior in dancing skills". Zheng Mengxia performed Peking Opera in Shanghai before the war and was a famous Peking Opera actress in Tsing Yi. Started to make films in Hong Kong around 1939. In 1939 and 1940, she co-starred with Xue Juexian in "The Sister-in-law's Robbery" and "The Silver Lantern Shines on the Jade Man". She was a woman of the era, and often drove a sports car to the hotel to drink tea. Zheng Mengxia and Tang Tisheng should have known each other from 1937 to 1939 when they worked together in Jue Xiansheng Theater Troupe. In 1942, when Hong Kong was occupied, Tang Tisheng married Zheng Mengxia. She started performing Cantonese opera during the occupation of Hong Kong. In 1947, Xue Juexian, the master of Cantonese opera, and her played the male lead Bai Jinlong and the heroine Zhang Yuniang in the famous movie "New Platinum Dragon". In the early 1950s, Lai's Voice, the first commercial radio station in Hong Kong, was established. Tong Ti-sang and Cheng Mung-ha both worked in Lai's Voice. The "Drama Career" program hosted by Zheng Mengxia is broadcast on Silver Radio of Hong Kong Lai Voice at 8:45 pm every Monday and Thursday. In May 1957, Hong Kong's first cable TV station, Lai's Yingsheng, started broadcasting, and Zheng Mengxia also transferred to Li's Yingsheng as a screenwriter and director. On September 14, 1959, Tang Tisheng died of cerebral hemorrhage at the age of 42. In order to make a living, Zheng Mengxia joined TVB to make TV series in the late 1970s and became a licorice actress who played the role of the elderly. The familiar ones were broadcast from 1981 to 1986. There were a total of more than 1,400 episodes of the drama Hong Kong 81 to Hong Kong 86 series, in which Zheng Mengxia played the role of the "garbage woman" sixth wife, which is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. In 1989, Zheng Mengxia resold 34 sets of Tang Tisheng's works to Entertainment Records for 100,000 Hong Kong dollars (according to Hong Kong Copyright Law, the ownership of the works is 50 years after they come out). From the 1980s to the early 1990s, she lived in City One, Sha Tin. In her later years, she was frail and sickly, so she lived in the Precious Blood Nursing Home. On November 30, 2000, Zheng Mengxia died of shortness of breath in Precious Blood Hospital at the age of 88. Zheng Mengxia and Tang Di had two daughters, one of whom, Tang Jing, returned to Hong Kong from Canada to handle her mother's funeral affairs.
