Lam Kwan-San林坤山

Lam Kwan-San林坤山 (1891 - January 21, 1964), a native of Zhongshan, Guangdong, was born in Hong Kong. In his early years, he joined the Linlang Fantasy Club to study drama. When he was a teenager, he loved drama and often participated in charity performances. He was good at performing gray comedies and was well received. At first, he worked as an English teacher in "Wan Chai College" and Queen's College. In his spare time, he joined "Lin Lang Drama Club" and performed "Civilized Drama" (fashionable Cantonese opera). In 1926, he gave up his teaching position and devoted himself wholeheartedly to the performing arts industry. He formed the "Yousheng Music Troupe" to participate in commercial performances and became famous in one fell swoop. He also participated in Cantonese opera troupes such as "Da Luo Tian", "New Scenery" and "New China". Performed on the same stage with Ma Shizeng, a famous actor at that time. He first played Wen Wusheng, and later changed to Chousheng because of his vocal cords. Screen debut as the silent film "The Crack" (1934), before the Pacific War, he was a first-line film actor in Hong Kong. The Countryman Wanders the Port" (1935) and "The Countryman Looking for a Child" (1936); after the war, he became a supporting role and participated in more than 120 films in his life. His last work is "Men and Women" (1964). From 1950 to 1962, he hosted Cantonese opera programs for Radio Television Hong Kong.Lam Kwan-San died of lung disease at Kwong Wah Hospital at 5 am on January 21, 1964 (Tuesday), at the age of 73.
