Leung So Mui (梁素梅)
Leung So Mui (梁素梅, 1932-January 25, 1964), formerly known as Liang Qimei, was born in Shunde County, Guangdong Province, an actress of Cantonese opera and Hong Kong movies. Since childhood, she played the role of Mei Xiang on the Cantonese opera stage in Guangzhou, the capital of Guangdong Province. She soon fell in love with a backstage staff, but was opposed by her parents. Leung So Mui then moved to Hong Kong to participate in film work. She once lived with a married policeman and gave birth to a son. After the divorce, she raised her son alone. Since 1955, she has continued to participate in film performances and as Hua Dan in a small Cantonese opera troupe. In 1960, when the second group of Huadan performed Cantonese opera in Singapore and Malaysia, she met an accountant who was born in a famous family in Singapore, but was opposed by the man’s parents. She once tried to commit suicide by mixing brandy with sleeping pills in a club in Singapore. The two eloped to Japan. After returning to Hong Kong, the Singaporean accountant bought the Far East Building at No. 5-6 Middle Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon for her, and then left to return to Singapore. In 1961, she participated in the "Hong Kong Beauty Election" and was selected as the "Twelve Gold Hairpins". Unfortunately, Wu Daiming finally won the crown. In 1962,Leung So Mui self-funded the establishment of "Yi Hing Company" and started a business as "A Good Girl Marries a Lover". Unfortunately, the movie was not well received, and it was cut off in two days after it was released. The loss was heavy, except for the sale of the residence of the Far East Building. In addition, the salaries and publicity fees of several actors are still owed. After the disaster, she and her son moved to lease the Champagne Building at No. 16 Kimberley Road, Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon, and then moved out due to rent arrears for several months. At this time, she sent her son to the Lingnan Middle School Scholar's Primary School for boarding, while she herself lived in an actress's house, and her life was very difficult. Mr. Yu, a wealthy Singaporean businessman, pursued her and promised to marry her verbally. In October 1963, she took her son to live in Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia. On January 25, 1964, at 8:30 p.m. in the Kenny Hill luxury apartment in the "Lakeside Park" in Kuala Lumpur, she was found dead by hanged herselfby , at the age of 32. Her body was found on January 27, 1964. Leung So Mui was buried in "Kuala Lumpur Yishan". Leung So Mui has participated in more than 100 films in her life.
