Mei Dai 美黛

Mei Dai 美黛(February 23, 1939-January 29, 2018), whose real name was Xiong Meidai, and her husband’s surname was He, was born in Guishanzhuang, Taoyuan County, Hsinchu Prefecture, Taiwan (now Guishan District, Taoyuan City) in 1939, and came to the People’s Republic of China in 1956. In 1957, she participated in the military activities of Kang Band, and started her singing career until 1959. In August 1960, sing at Kaohsiung open-air karaoke night garden concert. December 1960 Enter the Taipei music scene. In 1962, Taiwan TV Company started broadcasting, and Mei Dai was the first singer to sing the theme song "Ode to the Stars" of the Stars Gala. In the same year, she recorded her first album "Unforgettable", which was released in January 1963. This song was originally adapted from Japan's "Tokyo Nocturne", and Shen Zhi wrote the lyrics. It is deeply loved by Taiwanese fans and has been sung throughout Taiwan. In 1963, she hosted the "I Sing for You" program of Zhengsheng Broadcasting Company. In 1964, she participated in the movie "Green Island Night". In 1965, Fuhua Films started filming the film "Unforgettable", and Mei Dai sang the interludes "Unforgettable", "Tears of the Lone Star", "Heat and Light", "The Night", "Heartbreaker" and so on. In 1966, she recommended newcomer Wang Huilian to sing in a dance hall in Singapore, and recommended Wu Jingxian to sing in Yuyang Restaurant on Zhonghua Road. In 1966, she served as the lead singer behind the scenes for the theme song of the film "Taipei Girl" by Nikkatsu Film Company.She married in December 1966. In 1972, when she sang in the Rixin Cabaret, she discovered Wang Zhilei and recommended her to the owner of a record company in Malaysia. In 1991, she was awarded the "Golden Melody Award" Special Contribution Award by the Information Bureau. In 1993, the annual "Song of Mei Dai" solo concert was held at the Taipei Social Education Center. In December 1997, she taught and sang nostalgic songs in the Reunion Singing Class at Zhongshan Hall in Taipei City. On March 18, 2003, "40 Unforgettable Golden Songs Concert" was held at the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei. On September 7, 2008, "I am by your side - Looking back at the 70 Mei Dai Concert" was held at Zhongshan Hall in Taipei City. In 2016, due to a small cold It caused a serious illness. At the age of 78, her condition worsened and she was diagnosed with gastric and esophageal ulcers. She was in a coma for 5 days and 5 nights due to sepsis. Be more active, and vowed to hold a concert in 2018 and finish writing her autobiography before her 80th birthday. On February 23, 2018, the Taoyuan City Government held the "Unforgettable"-Mei Dai Singing Story Special Exhibition on Mei Dai's 80th birthday in the lunar calendar. Mei Dai's family said that she could not attend the opening ceremony because of a cold. But the family only announced on February 27 that Mei Dai had passed away on January 29 due to intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma. Mei Dai hoped that her singing exhibition would be held in a joyful atmosphere, and it was during the New Year, so the family did not release her obituary until nearly a month after her death.
