Yu Jia羽佳

Yu Jia羽佳 (1938-) is a Cantonese opera and film actor in Hong Kong in the 1960s and 1970s. His original name is Di Yujia, his father is Wu Sheng Zhai Shancong, and his mother is Huadan Zhou Shaoying. At the age of 4, he learned acting from his parents. At the age of 7, he officially stepped on the stage. He co-starred with his mother Zhou Shaoying in "Lu Bu and Diao Chan" to raise funds for disaster relief. The first work, "Where the Zha is in the East China Sea" (1948), was very popular. The subsequent releases of "Red Boy" (1949) and "The Beggar Emperor" (1949) made Yujia the target of the producers of the year. Coupled with his basic skills, playing the Monkey King Sun Wukong is even more unique. In "The Birth of a Stone Ghost Boy" (1949), he played the role of a child prodigy, Stone Ghost Boy (that is, Li Cunxiao, the Thirteenth Taibao), and even sang four little songs in the scores of Shanghai, Suzhou, Guangzhou and Wuzhou. Afterwards, Yujia followed his parents to perform in Macau, Guangzhou and other places. He was very popular and was known as the "child prodigy Yujia". In 1957, Yujia returned to Hong Kong and met theater fans again. He participated in several theater performances. His first plays included "Heroes and Daughters Protecting the Country", "Double Gun Lu Wenlong" and "Spring Breeze Across the Yumen Pass". Yu Jia learned Northern martial arts from famous teachers of the Northern School Huang Fengshan, Tian Qifang, Yuan Xiaotian and Qi Yukun; he also studied Chinese martial arts from Chen Hanzong and Liu Zhan. In terms of singing skills, he has learned Cantonese opera from Lu Jiachi, Zhang Sheng, Wang Yuesheng and Luo Baosheng; Feng Heting has learned to sing Beijing tune. It turned out that he got up early every morning at four o'clock to practice his voice, and he was well-trained. In addition to stage performances, Yujia has also participated in many movies, and they are also very popular, becoming a double-living artist. Played the adopted son of Sanniang Huang Manli in the ethical tragedy "Sanniang Teaching Her Son". Yu Jia once founded the Qing Hong Jia Theater Company with Nan Hong, and also organized the Jia Bao Theater Company with Li Baoying. Yujia devoted most of his youth to the stage. After retiring in the 1990s, he has kept his performance items. In 2011, he donated a large collection to the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, including more than 2,000 pieces of costumes, scripts, bridges, photos and props. He hopes that the younger generation will know this traditional Chinese art and have a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.
