Wang Renmei王人美

Wang Renmei王人美 (December 24, 1914-April 12, 1987), nicknamed "Little Wild Cat", was originally from Liuyang, Hunan, and was born and raised in Changsha. The late Chinese film actor and singer had an active film career in the 1930s, most notably in Cai Chusheng's "Fishing Light", the first Chinese film to win an international award. In 2005, Wang Renmei was selected as one of the 100 outstanding actors of Chinese film for a century. At the beginning of 1928, Wang Renmei's second brother Wang Renlu brought Wang Renmei and her third brother Wang Renyi to Shanghai. Wang Renmei and Wang Renyi entered the Shanghai Meimei School founded by Li Jinhui. Wang Renmei learned singing and dancing, and Wang Renyi learned mandolin. Li Jinhui once worked with Wang Renlu, the father of Chinese pop music. In May 1928, Li Jinhui organized the Chinese Song and Dance Troupe to perform in Nanyang, and Wang Renmei participated in the whole performance as a supporting role. In the winter of 1929, Li Jinhui organized the Mingyue Song and Dance Troupe. In the spring of the following year, he went to Peking and Tianjin to perform, and then went to Northeast China. Wang Renmei began to play the leading role in the performance, and performed outstandingly. Together with Li Lili, Xue Lingxian and Hu Jia, they were called the "Four Heavenly Kings" of the Mingyue Song and Dance Troupe. In 1931, Mingyue Song and Dance Troupe merged into Lianhua Film Industry, and Wang Renmei became a film actor of Lianhua Film Industry. In 1932, Wang Renmei played the leading role in the film "Wild Rose" written and directed by Sun Yu. In the film, Wang Renmei played opposite the then star Jin Yan. In 1934, in the film "Yuguang Song" directed by Cai Chusheng, Wang Renmei played the leading role "Kitten" and sang the theme song of the film. Wang Renmei achieved great success and established her position in the film industry. After Wang Renmei filmed "Yuguang Song", the name "Little Cat" was deeply rooted in the hearts of the people, so people affectionately called her "Wild Cat" from then on. On January 1, 1934, during the filming of "Yu Guang Song", Wang Renmei suddenly announced his marriage to Jin Yan. Jin Yan was the leading actor in "Wild Rose" starring Wang Renmei, and he was the best actor in China at that time. Despite the success of "Yuguangqu", Lianhua Pictures did not renew Wang Renmei's contract because the company believed that married actresses would lose their appeal to male audiences. In 1935, Wang Renmei joined the Dentsu Film Company and starred in "Children of the Wind and Cloud", from which "March of the Volunteers" came from. But Wang Renmei's film career has gone downhill since "Yuguang Song", far less successful than Jin Yan. When the Anti-Japanese War began in 1938, Wang Renmei and Jin Yan fled to Hong Kong. In 1939, director Sun Yu invited Jin Yan and Wang Renmei to star in the patriotic anti-Japanese film "Thousands of Miles in the Sky". This is China's first air combat film. They gladly accepted the invitation and came to Kunming to shoot the film. Returned to Hong Kong at the end of 1940. After the fall of Hong Kong, Wang Renmei and Jin Yan escaped from Hong Kong and followed the refugees all the way. Travel to Guilin. Afterwards, the couple went to Chongqing one after another. At the end of 1943, Jin Yan went to Chengdu. In the spring of 1944, Wang Renmei arrived in Kunming, joined the Dapeng Drama Club, and performed the drama "Peacock Gall", playing the leading role Princess Agai, which caused a sensation in Kunming. Soon, the Dapeng Drama Club was disbanded, and Wang Renmei was admitted to the Kunming Base of the US Army Material Supply Office as a typist to make a living. Wang Renmei and Jin Yan often lived apart in two places for a long time. Jin Yan did not agree with Wang Renmei to go out to work, and finally divorced in 1945, but after the divorce, the two remained friends. In 1950, Wang Renmei returned to Shanghai. In 1952, during the rectification movement in the film industry, Wang Renmei was slandered as having been in contact with Dai Li, the head of the military command. After recovering from illness, Wang Renmei was transferred to work in Beijing Film Studio. In 1955, Wang Renmei married the painter Ye Qianyu. After they got married, they often quarreled, but the marriage lasted until their death. During the anti-rightist movement in 1957, Wang Renmei was stimulated again, and then her condition relapsed, and she was sent to a psychiatric hospital by her husband Ye Qianyu for treatment. Despite this, she still wrote in the party application many times. During the Cultural Revolution, Wang Renmei was sent to work in a cadre school, but due to her family's special relationship with Mao Zedong, she was less persecuted. After the end of the Cultural Revolution, in 1979, Wang Renmei was rehabilitated and allowed to join the Communist Party of China. Wang Renmei was elected as a member of the Fifth and Sixth National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and an honorary director of the China Film Association. In 1980, Wang Renmei suffered a stroke and was paralyzed in bed. In December 1986, he had another stroke and became a vegetable.
