They got married after they met at Peking University. Coco Lee was born on January 17, 1975, as a posthumous child, and his father died when Coco Lee was not born. When she was 9 years old, her mother took her and her 2 older sisters to San Francisco to make a living. Coco Lee completed her high school studies there and was admitted to the University of California. One year later, she gave up her studies for singing career. In 1993, she returned to Hong Kong to participate in the 12th Rookie Singing Contest held by TVB and Huaxing Records, and won the top three.
