Gu Mei顧媚
Gu Mei顧媚 (Carrie Koo Mei) was born on December 30, 1929 in Guangzhou, China. Carrie Koo Mei was a famous singer and actress in Hong Kong in the 1950s and 1960s. She once joined Shaw Brothers (Hong Kong) and became popular for the movie "Little Skylark". , so she was known as the "Little Skylark"; before he finished middle school, she started working at the skating rink. At that time, her only pleasure was to hear the famous songs of Zhou Xuan, Li Xianglan and Yao Li in the venue. Before that, she was obsessed with the music of the times, and her godfather, musician Sun Ning, gave her guidance. She learned to read simplified musical notation, and despite her mother's objections, she began to work as a singer at the "Deore Casino" where her godfather worked. In 1951, Gu Mei officially joined the music scene. Her first boyfriend, who was a musician, changed her stage name to "Gu Wei", but was later mistakenly changed to "Gu Mei", which she still uses today. Since then, she has also performed on stage in Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. The first musical film in which she played the leading role was "Spring Flowers". In 1961, she joined Shaw Brothers and took over the filming of her first comedy film "Wonderful People", partnering with the leading actor Chen Hou. In the early days of working at Shaw Brothers, her main task was to sing behind the scenes. In 1962, in the movie "Unrequited Love", Gu Mei sang three interludes for the heroine Lin Dai, namely "Unrequited Love", "Dream" (composed by her younger brother Gu Jiahui) and "Folk Song". In 1965, she starred in the movie "Little Skylark" and achieved success, establishing her status as a singer and actress. When Huangmei tune was popular in Hong Kong, Gu Mei recorded "The Legend of White Snake". Because her voice range was alto, Wang Fuling asked her to raise her voice, so she became hoarse for a time, which led to her singing in the movies "Blue and Black" and "Desperately Waiting". The song selections recorded with "Ship" were abandoned, and her singing career encountered a bottleneck. As early as 1963, she began to study painting with Zhao Shaoang. Since 1969, she studied painting with Hu Nianzu in Taiwan. Since the 1970s, she has focused on the painting world and became a Chinese painting painter. In 1971, she held a solo exhibition in Taipei. In 1973, she held a solo exhibition in the Hong Kong City Hall and a solo exhibition in Singapore. In 1974, she studied modern ink painting with Lu Shoukun and began to establish her own unique painting style. In the same year, she held a solo exhibition in Bangkok, Thailand. From 1976 to 1978, she held several art exhibitions in Hong Kong. In 1982, she held a solo exhibition in Kuala Lumpur. Participated in the "Alliance Exhibition" held by the National Museum of History in Taipei. Participated in the "Contemporary Hong Kong Artists Invitational Exhibition" held at the University of Cincinnati, USA. In 1983, she held solo exhibitions in Hong Kong City Hall and Singapore. Participated in the "Exhibition of Art Tutors' Works from the Off-Campus Continuing Education Department of The Chinese University of Hong Kong" held in Hong Kong. Participated in the "Oriental Art Exhibition" held at Utah State University in the United States.
