Qu Yunyun屈云云

Qu Yunyun屈云云 (1927- July 3, 2011), whose real name is Qu Wenjie, also known as Qu Yunyun, was born in Suzhou and grew up in Shanghai. She and Ouyang Feiying were both coloratura sopranos in the Shanghai period. She was a student of Shelifanov, the director of the vocal music department of the "Shanghai Music Institute". She is a pop star with traditional Western singing methods (commonly known as Bel Canto). In her early days, she sang at the "Xian Lesi Ballroom" for a period. In 1945, she and Ouyang Feiying held a performance at the Lanxin Theater in Shanghai, which mixed contemporary music works by composers such as Chen Gexin, Liang Yueyin, and Li Jinguang, as well as traditional Western music. Classical song concerts are very popular. At the end of 1946, the first 78 rpm record was released, which featured Chen Gexin's work "The Lady on the Tricycle" and became famous. From 1946 to 1948, she recorded nine 78 rpm gramophone records. In 1949, she went on stage in Hong Kong and continued to record records. In 1952, she sang the theme song of the same name for the movie "The Moon Bends over Nine Provinces" starring Chen Yunshang, but when the record was recorded, it was sung by Deng Baiying. In 1957, she married Xu Zelin and settled in Singapore .Her husband opened the Hollywood Cinema, the first air-conditioned theater in the country. He died at home due to heart disease in 2006. Qu Yunyun spent her later years in Singapore and often appeared in public to comfort her old fans. She died at Mount Alvernia Hospital in Singapore at 8:30 am on July 3, 2011 at the age of 84.
