Artiste Zhao Dan

Zhao Dan, formerly known as Zhao Feng'ao, was originally from Feicheng, Shandong Province. He was born in Nantong, Jiangsu Province in 1915. He is a famous film actor. When I was in middle school, I organized a "Little Drama Club" with some friends to perform plays. After graduation, he entered Shanghai Fine Arts College and studied traditional Chinese painting, specializing in landscapes. During this period, he joined the American College Theater Company, the New Zealand Theater Company and the Tuosheng Theater Company, and actively participated in the activities of the "Drama Alliance". Using the stage name "Zhao Dan", he went deep into factories, markets, and schools to perform anti-Japanese and national salvation plays. In 1932, he was noticed by Li Pingqian, the famous director of Mingxing Film Company, and played the role of a young man in the silent film "Pipa Spring Resentment". From then on, he became a basic actor of Mingxing Film Company. He successively participated in the filming of "Twenty-Four Hours in Shanghai" (1933), "Daughters of Time" (1933), "Three Sisters" (1934), "Going to the Northwest" (1934), "The Book of Daughters" (1934), "Empty Valley Orchid" (1934), "Nostalgia" (1934), "The Season of Falling Flowers" (1935), "Hot Blooded Loyal Soul" (1935), "Little Lingzi" (1936), "Qingming Festival" (1936) and more than 20 films Film. After the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War, Zhao Dan joined the Third Anti-Japanese and National Salvation Drama Troupe and traveled around the country to promote the anti-Japanese war. In 1939, he participated in the filming of the film "Children of China". In June 1939, he, Xu Tao, Wang Weiyi and others went to Xinjiang to develop progressive drama work. They were later imprisoned by the reactionary warlord Sheng Shicai and imprisoned for 5 years. After the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, he returned to Shanghai and starred in the films "Distant Love" and "Happy Rhapsody". He also directed a film that satirized and exposed the reactionaries' "picking peaches from the mountains" to plunder, claiming to be receiving, but in fact "robbing". "Returning with splendor and glory". After 1948, he filmed films such as "The Unstoppable Spring", "Beauty Walking", "The Crow and the Sparrow" at Kunlun Film Company. In 1957, he won the first prize of the Ministry of Culture’s 1949-1955 Outstanding Individual Film Award. After the Third Plenary Session of the Eleventh Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, he enthusiastically taught performing arts in institutions of higher learning, and despite being seriously ill, in 1979 he completed works such as "Screen Image Creation" and "Gates of Hell". He has many artistic talents, and a large number of his calligraphy and painting works are cherished by the Chinese calligraphy and painting circles. "Selections of Zhao Dan's Calligraphy and Painting" have been published one after another. In his artistic career of nearly half a century, he has continuously explored the Chinese nation's performing arts system, emphasizing the creative artistic conception of having fun outside the law, painting within poetry, and poetry within painting. His performance advocates the harmonious unity of experience and expression, free and easy, with both form and spirit, profound artistic conception, and has its own unique artistic style. Zhao Dan lost his life to cancer in July 1980 at the age of 65. Zhao Dan won the first prize for the Ministry of Culture's 1949-1955 Outstanding Film Individual Award for "The Crow and the Sparrow"; in 1995, he won the China Film Century Award for Best Actor.
