Grace Chang 葛兰

Ge Lan（Grace Chang 葛兰, born June 13, 1933), whose real name is Zhang Yufang. Hailing from Haining County (now Haining City), Zhejiang Province, China, she was born in Nanjing and raised in Shanghai. Grant began studying vocal music when she was still a child. In 1949, she moved to Hong Kong with her father. In April 1952, Ge Lan, still in her senior year at Deming High School in Hong Kong, applied to the Taishan Bu Wancang Film Company and was accepted with top marks. After the training class, Taishan Film Company filmed the movie "Seven Sisters" for the actors in the training class. She and six other heroines in the drama: Zhong Qing, Li Qiang, Liu Lianghua, Luo Ting, Chen Yun, Rong Yuanjing They are also known as the Seven Taishan Sisters. Not long after that, she joined the Taishan Bu Wanchang Film Company. Bu Wanchang greatly admired Ge Lan and asked her to study performance art and Western vocal music with Yu Zhenfei, Huang Feiran and Ye Lengzhuqin. Ge Lan also sings well in Peking Opera and is fluent in English. In 1954, Hollywood actor Clark Gable was filming the movie "Soldier of Fortune" in Hong Kong and needed someone who could speak English. An English-speaking Chinese actress played the role of Fisherman's Daughter. More than 2,000 people took the exam, but only Ge Lan was admitted. Ge Lan joins International Film Industry Co., Ltd. in 1956 and starred in the movie "Mambo Girl". She plays Li Kailing. Because she sings and dances well, people call her "Mambo Girl". Later, she starred in "Drinking, Sex and Fortune", "Wild Rose", "June Bride", etc., all with outstanding performances. In 1961, Ge Lan and Gao Fuquan married in London. After more than seven months of honeymoon around the world, she returned to Hong Kong to film movies such as "Teach Me How to Miss Her" and "Lotus Lantern". In 1964, after starring in "The Laughing Marriage" (Parts 1 and 2), Ge Lan officially retired from film and music and concentrated on raising her husband and children at home. After retiring from the film industry, Grant turned to studying Peking Opera and participating in related performances. In 1989, she and her colleagues published a collection of Peking Opera records. In addition, she also used to sing or perform at public events. Ge Lan's husband, Gao Fuquan, is the brother of Youmin's husband, Gao Fuqiu. Gao Fuquan was born in 1916, 17 years older than Ge Lan. Ge Lan and Youmin are sisters-in-law. Ge Lan's films were all very popular. She is a rare talented woman who can sing and dance well, and her acting skills are amazing.
