Lin Dai(Linda 林黛)
Lin Dai(Linda 林黛), formerly known as Cheng Yueru, was born in Binyang County, Guangxi Province on December 26, 1934. She is the eldest daughter of political celebrity Mr. Cheng Siyuan. Due to the war, Lin Da lived a homeless life in her childhood. In 1948, when she was still in junior high school at Nanjing Huiwen Girls' Middle School, she came to Hong Kong with her family to settle down due to political reasons and continued her studies at New Asia College. In 1951, she was noticed by Yuan Yangan, the head of Great Wall Film Production Co., Ltd., and he immediately asked her to audition for the camera, becoming a basic actress of the company. Yuan Yangan also gave her the stage name "Lin Dai" based on the Chinese transliteration of her foreign name Linda. Lin Dai never had the opportunity to make movies at the Great Wall. In 1952, she switched to Yonghua Film Company (referred to as "Yonghua") on the recommendation of Yan Jun. Virgin is "Cui Cui" adapted from Shen Congwen's masterpiece "Border Town", and it has six such good songs. Lin Dai's singing voice is flawed, as if it lacks vitality, but for more than half a century, no one wants to listen to the "Cui Cui" and "Golden Phoenix" interludes sung by non-Lin Dai. The producer knew that her singing voice was not perfect enough, so they hired Wang Ruoshi, who had a background in vocal music, to sing for her. However, as soon as the film came out, the record company still asked Lin Dai to record these interludes. The record was sold out, and the audience loved Lin Dai's voice. 'Cui Cui''s sister film 'Golden Phoenix' has a video and song style that closely follows that of 'Cui Cui'. Among them, two songs, "Wild Girl" and "Single's Bitterness" sung by Lin Dai and Yan Jun, were still composed by Bai Lang. The other chorus "Sending Lover" and Lin Dai's solo "Shepherd's Song" are works by Yao Min. All lyrics are filled in by Xiangzi (aka Li Hanxiang). Most of Lin Dai's early films had singing scenes, and most of the male singers she sang duet with were Yan Jun. After the two broke up, this situation no longer existed. Later, Lin Dai did not dedicate herself of singing to her performances in other films.
