Wu Mei Lun (胡美伦)
Wu Mei Lun (胡美伦 , 1908 - February 24 , 1985 ) , an early Hong Kong Cantonese opera singer and film actress, was active in the 1940s and 1950s. As early as the 1940s, Wu Mei Lun organized her own "Ming Yue Music Society" and often performed at Radio Hong Kong. She was known as the "Queen of Chinese Opera" in the Cantonese opera music circle. She was known for her strong energy, clear pronunciation, mellow and smooth accents. , and is called the "Golden Voice of Cantonese Opera". Wu Mei Lun made her screen debut in "Mr. Husband" (1936 , playing the role of the seventh concubine ) ; her last film was "The Golden House" (1952 , playing the role of Mrs. Zhu ) ;
Wu Mei Lun has participated in more than 70 movies in her life.
Wu Mei Lun has stopped acting since her marriage to Lao Gongrong, focusing on her husband and raising children, and only occasionally performs guest appearances for charity;
They have one son and two daughters. Their youngest daughter, Lao Yunyan, is an announcer for Radio Hong Kong and a leading actress of Longxiang Theater Company. Wu Mei Lun died of a heart attack in the hospital at 4:30 pm on February 24 , 1985 ( Sunday , the fifth day of the Lunar New Year ) . She was 77 years old then. The body was laid to rest with a Buddhist ceremony at the Hong Kong Funeral Parlor at 12:30 noon on March 7 , 1985 ( Thursday ) , and the funeral was held at 1 p.m.
