He moved to Hong Kong in 1949 and studied at New Asia College of the Chinese University of Hong Kong . An internationally renowned photographer, film actor and director, he is the "grand master" who pioneered street photography in Hong Kong . In 1958 , he used new-school photography techniques to break away from the rigid traditional style. From 1958 to 1965 , he won eight consecutive titles among the top ten photographers in the world organized by the Photographic Society of America. From the 1950s to the 1970s , he won 267 consecutive awards in international photography competitions and wrote books such as "Street Photography Series" and "Modern Photography Appreciation" . In the 1960s , he worked as an actor at Shaw Brothers Film Company. He initially worked as a scene clerk and later became an actor. The Tang Monk he played in 1965 was well-received, and he also performed in sequels and participated in famous movies such as "Unbreakable Love", "Journey to the West" and "Blue and Black". Among them, he is best known for playing Tang Monk; he later entered the stage as a director . In the film industry, he made a name for himself at Cannes and the Berlin Film Festival with the experimental film "Mystery" in 1970. He has directed more than 20 films and was active in the Hong Kong film industry in the 1970s and 1980s. His works include "Spring in Denmark" and "The Master of the Sky". He mostly made aesthetic and artistic films until he retired and moved to the United States in the 1990s . In 1996 ,Ho Fan retired and moved to San Jose, California, to reunite with his family. Encouraged by his family, he returned to photography. His photographs were exhibited in the San Francisco Bay Area and around the world, and were very popular and influential. He died in a hospital in San Jose, California, USA due to worsening pneumonia on June 19 , 2016. He was 84 years old. Facing the death of their loved ones, the family worked together to fulfill Ho Fan 's last wish. From the 500 photos he had selected , 153 more photos were selected to capture the past of Hong Kong.
