Bai Yan白燕
Bai Yan was born in 1920, formerly known as Chen Yuping, a native of Huizhou. She was an actress in Cantonese films in Hong Kong from the 1950s to the 1960s. Bai Yan is good at portraying unfortunate women and good wives and mothers. The opponents in front of the screen include famous niche students Wu Chufan, Zhang Ying, Zhang Huoyou, etc. During this period, she starred in more than 300 films.
Bai Yan白燕, who graduated from Guangzhou Jiaozhong Girls' High School, became an actress of Guangzhou "International Film Company" in 1936 and participated in the movie "Bing Dilian". In 1937 to Hong Kong, the first film performance is "Splendid Rivers and Mountains". During the Japanese invasion of China, Bai Yan and others had made more than 30 anti-Japanese films: "Behind the Line of Fire in Shanghai", "Strong Mountains and Rivers", "Zhong Kui Catches Ghosts" and so on. In 1952, Bai Yan and several famous Hong Kong actors, including Wu Chufan, Zhang Huoyou, Huang Manli, etc., established "Zhonglian Film Enterprise Co., Ltd." to produce high-quality films. Film production at that time included "Seven Days Fresh" and "Celebrity Stars" (that is, Cantonese opera actors who also made movies to earn extra money), and film companies rushed and over-shooted, resulting in poor quality Cantonese films. And filmmakers such as Bai Yan, who founded Zhonglian Film, had ideals. In 1954, the "Shanlian Film Company" was established, which produced and starred in excellent Cantonese films such as "Yunniang".
Bai Yan's last film performance was "Mad Woman" in 1964, and she has since retired from the film industry, but after that, there are still TV stations who want to invite her to come back to make TV dramas from time to time. One set is "Star", which Jiashi started filming. The plot describes Lin Dai's life. At that time, Zeng Jiang invited Bai Yan to come back and play the role of Lin Dai's mother, but it was not successful.
The other set was "Strong Man", which was filmed by TVB in 1978. Huang Zhuyun, who was a big member of TVB and Bai Yan's neighbor at the time, went out to persuade her. Huang Zhuyun promised Bai Yan that if she would act, her role would be balanced from beginning to end. It is said that Bai Yan was also very excited at the time, but she just wanted to keep the style and image of the Cantonese film era for the audience to recall, so she did not agree to come back, and the role was changed to Xiang Yi.
Bai Yan got married in 1938. The first husband was Liang Weimin. They knew each other because of the filming of "Warrior's Love Flower" (Liang Weimin is the hero in the film, and he invested in this film), but the marriage was very short-lived. Divorced after a year.
Bai Yan has two daughters, one is born with her second husband Lu Tianyou (the brother of artist Lu Haitian, the uncle of Lu Guanting), named Lu Guopei. The other is a concubine, named Xu Jiayan. Live in Hong Kong and Canada respectively.
On May 6, 1987, Bai Yan died of bone cancer in Hong Kong at the age of 67.
