新劍郎Xin Jianlang

People in the industry call him Brother Tian. Xin Jianlang started singing Cantonese opera after graduating from middle school, and has been doing it for more than 50 years. Since 2001, he has been writing and producing as a scriptwriter and producer. Last year, he was awarded the "Artist of the Year Award" (Traditional Opera) in recognition of his long-standing contribution to Cantonese opera. Xinjianlang is the stage name given to him by his master. When he was in primary school, his Chinese teacher asked him to read "Dream of Red Mansions" to lay a literary foundation. When he was in the fifth grade of primary school, he often went to the theater to watch operas with his parents. Under the influence of his parents, he fell in love with Cantonese opera since he was a child, and therefore he started learning to do operas. In the 1980s, Xin Jianlang felt that there were not many opportunities to perform in Hong Kong, so he decided to try his luck in Singapore and Malaysia. When Xin Jianlang returned to Hong Kong, he was invited by Leung Han-wai to star in the new Cantonese opera "The Hundred Days Coup" Guangxu. Xin Jianlang, who has participated in many theater companies, has rich stage experience. He once mentioned in an interview, "My favorite Cantonese opera script is "The White Rabbit Meeting" by Tang Disheng in 1958, because the script is really well written. Since 2001, He is a part-time screenwriter and producer of Wenwusheng. He first wrote the Cantonese opera script "The Beauty of the Lotus Pond". In 2002, he formed his own New Brilliance Theater Company. In 2003, he produced a new Cantonese opera "Madame Butterfly". After that, he wrote 30 scripts. Xin Jianlang's favorite is "Love Dream Su Ti". In the past twenty years, he has been promoting Cantonese opera in major colleges and universities, and was a judge for the first "Hong Kong Cantonese Opera Golden Bauhinia Award". Xin Jianlang also holds a number of public offices related to Cantonese opera and contributes to the Cantonese opera industry, such as artistic consultant of the Xiqu Group of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council, member of the Executive Committee of the Cantonese Opera Development Fund, etc., and was invited by Wang Mingquan to serve as the vice chairman of the Bahe Council.
